Craig Bullock
Artist and international floral designer
Artist
Craig Bullock already used an avant-garde approach to floral designing to challenge expectations of the type of work produced by an international floral designer. In his work as an artist, his approach to challenging thrusts deeper into society’s structure and social constructs of norm, hierarchy, etc.
By homing in on the minute happenings of life, issues and concerns revolve around the countering of hegemony. Hegemony concerns the mores of society, the dominant groups who construct and impose ideas of norm, expectation, power in a society.
As this is a broad spectrum to explore, Bullock’s medium varies according to what he feels and is right for the subject - still image (photography), moving image (video), object and installation all appear in his palette.
Craig also ‘paints for pleasure’ which in academic terms is not considered ‘fine art practice’ but does counter the hegemony of academic expectations.
He completed his BA(1st class Hons) Fine Art in 2006, and MA Fine Art (distinction) 2007 at Manchester Metropolitan University. Craig has shown work in ‘Lost in Translation’, an exhibition for students from eleven international institutions in the main location for the Istanbul Biennial and been involved in two group shows using the ‘caravan’ gallery at Chorlton Arts Festival (Manchester) and touring locations in central Manchester for the exhibition ‘Mind the Gap’.
